My H1 uses no petroleum at all

I think it's really funny that the only tag line you could come up with is so flawed.

My 1998 HUMMER has been running on synthetic oil for 7 years. Not just the engine oil, but transmission, transfer case, differentials, geared hubs, chassis lube, everything!

I have been running pure B100 biodiesel for as long as it has been available in my area (which has been a few years).

The only petroleum in this truck might be on the door hinges, and that's about it.

    Well.

Of the hundreds of thousands of Hummers sold, there's now ONE that uses synthetic oil.

One down, a few hundred thousand to go.

There are only about 1,000 H1 HUMVEEs sold each year. Less than a few hundred thousand exist in total (that's over 20 years) including military, so your numbers are way off. There are at least 2 civilian biodiesel H1's in Seattle alone. Fort Lewis Army base is running B100 in every eligible diesel vehicle, according to the press and their web site. I imagine that includes every HUMVEE, since no conversion is necessary. That's probably a better percentage than any standard vehicle.

The German diesels may have that percentage beat, though. Seattle dealership(s) are selling Jetta's off the lot with biodiesel already in the tank. That's an excellent education and publicity program for biodiesel. (My truck has signs on every side advertising biodiesel and where to get it - and people are looking and reading).

The bottom line is that more vehicles of every class should become alternatively fueled. That's true whether it is a commuter, daily driver, or some esoteric machine that sits in the garage most of the time. We need to get Ze Germans to import more diesels, which means we need to educate Americans to ask for them.

While there is an element of humor in the tag line for this tribe, it sure seems like a better introductory slogan could be written. Why exclude the big, heavy, and practically pointless vehicles from the alternative fuel party? They're the ones that would probably help the problem the most by not using petrol.

Yes, I was being my usual hysterical with my numbers.

My point - It is good that you are using biodiesel, but of all the humvees out there, how many actually are doing what you are doing? That said, if everyone took steps to at least learn about and see how to incorporate alternative fuels/systems, we'd all be a lot better off in the long and short-run.

<The bottom line is that more vehicles of every class should become alternatively fueled.>

        Yep. Well said.
